How A Clean Home is Good for Your Health

Having a tidy home is generally agreed upon as being more relaxing. You feel more energised, productive, and able to take deep breaths. One’s health is affected by their immediate surroundings. This common-sense assumption is supported by studies showing a direct link between a clean house and better mental and physical health. Dust and disorganisation are the primary causes. Keeping your house tidy has benefits beyond just practicality.

Home cleanliness and good health

Allergies and respiratory conditions like asthma are made worse by dust and clutter. The EPA reports that indoor air may be up to five times more contaminated than outside air. Regular vacuuming is one of the best strategies to enhance the quality of air within your house. Carpets are notorious for collecting allergens including dust, food debris, and pet hair and dander. Vacuuming should be done at least once a week, and more often if there are children or pets in the home.

Using low-VOC products is another strategy for maintaining a healthy home environment. Some items give out fumes called volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which may trigger asthma attacks. It is difficult to rid our lives of the many home items, particularly cleaning chemicals, that release volatile organic compounds (VOCs). A number of strategies are suggested by the EPA for mitigating the effects of VOCs on indoor air quality. Always use with enough ventilation and in accordance with the label’s instructions for safe usage.

Wellness at Home and in Mind

Keeping clean has positive psychological impacts as well. The messier your home, the more jumbled your thoughts will become. In 2011, researchers utilised magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to observe how the brain reacts to clutter and discovered that it slows down mental functioning. Clutter distracts and makes it more difficult to focus. Try to get rid of as much junk as you can; research suggests that an uncluttered environment is better for your health. To keep toys and other items organised, use boxes and baskets, and attempt to donate or get rid of unused items at least twice a year.
